What is holistic psychotherapy + counseling?

To best understand holistic therapy, it is important to understand conventional medicine. In a conventional model when you see a practitioner they treat the symptoms you are experiencing. Conventional medicine works very well for acute illnesses and injuries. For example, a conventional approach to treating depression could be an antidepressant medication. Antidepressants help manage symptoms, but do not treat the cause of depression.

Studies are showing that holistic interventions help treat the underlying cause of disease and illness. Your therapist will take an evidence-based mind, body, and spirit approach in addition to talk therapy to heal the underlying cause of your symptoms. In addition to traditional therapy, a holistic psychotherapist may explore movement, nutrition, mindfulness meditation, amongst other holistic and integrative interventions. We also might recommend outside practitioners and doctors to ensure you start feeling better as quickly as possible. For example, in a holistic approach for depression, we see depression symptoms as messages that there is imbalance in your life and/or body. We might recommend evidence-based interventions such as exercise, yoga, mindfulness meditation, nutritional interventions, and seeing a functional medicine doctor who could assess for inflammation and other bodily imbalances that might be causing depression symptoms.

How do I know who is the right therapist for me?

Here are some things to think about to make sure you find the right therapist.

  1. What are you looking for help with?

  2. If therapy did everything you needed it to do, how would your life look different?

  3. Look for therapist who specialize in what you are looking for help with.

  4. Interview three therapists and see who you click with. You can talk to three great therapists and only click with one person.

We’re here to help connect you with the right therapist. If you’re feeling stuck on finding the right therapist for you, just let us know and we would be happy to help.

I’ve never been to therapy before, what should I expect?

First, know that you are taking a brave step in improving your life and we are excited to be part of your journey. Every therapist is unique and will take different approaches to helping you heal. We offer free 15-minute phone consultations so you can make sure that you find the right ft. You can expect that Boketto Center therapists will take the time to educate you on all things therapy so you can decide the direction you would like to go on your healing path. Your therapy will be centered around you, your values, and unique needs.

During the first session, your therapist will do an assessment to collect information about you. We do this so we can have a basic understanding of your life, and also insurances require this information be collected during the first session. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and decide your goals for therapy. Your therapist will ally with you in creating a treatment plan so you can start feeling better as soon as possible.

What insurances do you accept?

All of our clinicians accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna. Some practitioners accept Blue Care Network (Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO).

What are costs related to services?

If you are privately paying for therapy, your therapist will review with you the cost of treatment. If you are using insurance, we highly recommend calling your insurance company to find out about your outpatient mental health benefit in an office setting. They will be able to review your deductible, copay, and coinsurance information with you. It is your responsibility to understand your contract with your insurance company and financial consents with Boketto Center. If you have any specific questions, we would be happy to assist.

What's my deductible/copay/coinsurance?

Call the number on the back of your insurance card to find your cost-share and benefit information. When you call, ask about your "outpatient mental health visit in an office setting" benefit. If they ask you for a billing code, the most common codes we use at our office are 90791, 90837, and 90834.

How do I know what I owe for my visits?

Your insurance company provides you Election of Benefits (EOBs) forms through mail, email, your insurance portal, and even through mobile apps. You can see how much you owe for sessions that have been billed and what your insurance covers.

To check online for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and BCN, please visit www.bcbsm.com to sign up for online statements or download their mobile app

How can I check my Boketto Center Invoices/Payments?

You can check your invoices/payments anytime at https://bokettocenter.clientsecure.me/.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We only accept credit card, HSA/FSA, cards, and debit card payments and require all clients to keep a credit card on file.

Will my therapist be angry with me if I don’t like their approach or feel they are not a good fit for me?

Absolutely not. Your healing journey is about you and your needs. You’re not going to click with every therapist and you’re not going to like every approach. Your therapist wants your needs to be met and that might be with another practitioner. If you ever have concerns about your therapist not being a good fit you should bring this up with your therapist. Sometimes these conversations can cause us anxiety or fear, and it is an opportunity to get into the challenge zone and advocate for yourself.

I see this therapy practice specializes in women’s issues, do you refuse clients who identify as male or non-binary?
